How do you track which keyword or site made the sale, let say if I’m an affilaite of

You pass what is called a subid to clickbank.

Keyword radar creates the subid that would be passed to clickbank.

Hi Brian, but then how do you see that data in your adwords account?

My reply…

You don’t see it in your adwords acct… Rather you see it in your keyword radar account.

My server can handle a lot of traffic.

Is there a way to set a default for the values for the Keyword radar parameters for a specific web page. For example, I have a website and I want the home page to default to a specific campaign name. So, even if someone just types the domain name, it will register an enter into KeywordRadar with that campaign name filled out rather than being unknown.
Thanks,

Barb

Hi Barbara,

Yes, you can set your page so that all visitors to it get tagged with a certain campaign.

Go to step 2 of the wizard and use the “Embed tracking code in page” tab.

You can embed the campaign name directly in the page.

Good Luck,

Today, when I logged into my adwords account, I saw this alert:

Important Change to URL Policy Enforcement
Starting in April, display URLs for new ads will be required to match their destination / landing page URLs, without exception. Please adjust your URLs accordingly when creating new ads.
Learn more

That got me worried, because most of my Google Adword Landing Page URLs are coded up with the various Keyword Radar tracking parameters, and at first glance I thought that I’d have to scramble to fix all my URLs to comply.

But after reading further into this, I found this:

Tracking URLs

Your ads will be approved if the URL of your landing page domain matches that of your display URL domain.

For example, the following would be acceptable:

Display URL: www.google.com/adwords

Destination URL: www.trackingurl.com/google123

Landing page URL: www.google.com

However, this example would be unacceptable:

Display URL: www.google.com/adwords

Destination URL: www.trackingurl.com/google123

Landing page URL: www.trackingurl.com

So, if you are using Keyword Radar to track your traffic before you redirect them somewhere else, it appears that it is OK to set your destination URLs to either our servers (if you do direct linking compaigns) or your own domain landing page where the Keyword Radar code is used to set visitor cookies and redirect to where you want the traffic to go.

Please email me or post comments.

Suppose you only rely on natural traffic… that is… traffic from Google, Yahoo or MSN search engine listing.

When someone enters a keyword phrase, and then that person clicks on the search engine listing, and arrives on your web page that you may (or may not) have optimized for that keyword phrase, so long as that page has the Keyword Radar tracking code on it, our software will be able to track this visitor, where they go, what they buy, and which keywords resulted in a sale or opt-in, or whatever custom event you’ve set up to track.

Here’s a question I just received on whether or not Keyword Radar can be used to track a visitor who may view multiple pages before clicking on over to the affiliate program you are promoting.

The good news is that YES, it can! Here’s the original question:

Brian, I have a couple of affiliate sites where users may click through 2 or 3 pages on that site before they click my affiliate link. Is Keyword Radar able to track the original keyword typed in through multiple pages? And when they do click on my affiliate link, would Keyword Radar still be able use a cloaked/redirection link?

Yes, Keyword Radar will still track it. But you still need to pass a tracking id to the affiliate program in the outbound affiliate URL.

But the tracking id you pass doesn’t have to be the original tracking id that the visitor was issued when they came to your site. In fact, it never will be, because Keyword Radar issues a unique tracking id for each page view.

For example,

When the visitor comes to your landing page, suppose they are cookied with a tracking id, say 123.

Suppose you want to redirect them to http://www.affprogram.com?tid=keywordradartrackingid

Within Keyword Radar’s Redirection module, create a redirection to redirect to http://www.affprogram.com?tid=keywordradartrackingid

Grab the Keyword Radar redirection code that the software automatically creates for you, and save it to a new page on your server, called recommend.htm

This new web page is now your cloaked affiliate URL, which you can insert into your landing page.

Now, when the visitor hovers over the recommend.htm link, they don’t see that it’s an affiliate link.

When the visitor clicks on this link, they will be ultimately redirected to the affiliate site by our software, and the software will insert the unique tracking id in the URL. But this tracking id in the url will be different than the original tracking id 123. It might be 124, 125 or some other number.

ie) The visitor may see this in the browser window after the redirection.

http://www.affprogram.com?tid=126

If this visitor buys the affiliate product, when you use our software to track the affiliate sales, the software will automatically trace the 126 tracking id back to the original 123 tracking id, and therefore display the keyword that visitor may have used to reach your website.

I welcome comments on any questions or tracking issues that you may have.

One of our members asked me this question:

“I process order from minisites in to a central shopping cart.

So I have one thank you page for all products.

How can I enter tracking code on the shopping cart thank you page that will track all my sales?”

Here is my reply…

First, create a new Keyword Radar project (I’ll call it “Red Widgets” here) to track the page views.

Then use the project creation wizard to generate the Keyword Radar javascript code to be put on all your landing pages so that all the traffic is funneled into the “Red Widgets” project.

Next, we have to create a script in our “Red Widgets” project to track sales.

Go to “Create Events” tool and create a sales event.

You said all shopping cart sales go to one page after purchases, so you can just define a generic sales event if you want.

Or, if on this thank you page you can read in a form variable that identifies the product you sold, you can set up custom events for EACH product and then use server-side code on the thank you page to adjust the Keyword Radar event code.

But I’ll just assume you want to set up an “Generic Sales Event”.

After you define this event, go back to Step 2 of the Wizard, and attach this sales event to the project.

Doing so will modify the javascript code to indicate that visitors to this pages should be counted as a sale.

Take this new javascript code and put it on your thank you page. This will record your sales. Notice how this code is almost identical to the “page view” script, except that it has an event code that maps the traffic to a sale.

As sales come in, you can run a report within Keyword Radar that will identify which keyword or split-test led to the sale.

Note: You don’t have to import any external sales reports like you have to with Clickbank, because the sales event script logs the sales for you.

If anyone has questions on this article, please post them here.
